Global Identity Crisis
WE SUFFER FROM AN IDENTITY CRISIS.
Liberation and Black Power to you family. Welcome to another episode of Progressive Soul Radio. So, I decided to resurrect a favorite show concept entitled African International. Some may remember this show on Uhuru Radio. Well, African International or A.I. as I use to call it, features music and news from throughout the African Diaspora, that is, anywhere in the world where Black people are living. Part of the vision for African International (the show) is to demonstrate, through music, the commonality of our historical experience, our current anti-colonial struggle, and of course our coming future as a self determined nation; regardless of where we happen to be geographically located right now.RECONNECT OURSELVES TO AN AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE.
A major stumbling block however to our collective progress, is that we suffer globally, from an identity crisis. This is reflected in our heavy emphasis on identity politics. We vigorously debate, fight, and in many cases actually go to war with one another in order to defend customs, traditions and belief systems that are historically not our own. This in part stems from the slave trade(s), and colonialism, where we have been forced to assume the identities of our conquers. We have been "educated" and "discipled" to view the history and culture of our Ancestors as nothing more than uncivilized and pagan. This Colonial Violence (psychological), has ingrained a deep seated self hatred in Black people the world over. This is true for religion, our false nationalities imposed on us by way of colonial borders, and most other subcultures we gravitate to in an attempt to define ourselves.ONE PEOPLE ONE NATION MANY SONGS
African International (the show) is a response to this contradiction. It also serves as a platform to simply celebrate our beauty and creativity. A place to share ideas, information and strategies. A resource to help us reconnect and fall in love with an African perspective.So strap it up family and get ready for the ride.
